Yates Brewery was established in 1986 by Peter & Carole Yates
It was the infancy of micro-brewing, the Good Beer Guide for the following year listed only 2 micro-breweries in the North East and Cumbria.
When Graeme & Caroline Baxter bought the brewery in 1998 they injected their styles of beer from High Force, Co. Durham and crucially kept faith with the ever popular Yates Bitter, now the brewery produces several styles of beer that have year round support.
In 2006 the new brewhouse was commissioned increasing production to 48 barrels per week and a new reedbed system for wastewater was built.
In August 2007 Yates Brewery celebrated 2,500 brews, approximately 8 million pints of beer. It is testament to the ongoing quality of Yates Beers that many of the original Yates outlets still stock Yates beers, some after several changes of ownership.
